This page was set up in order to provide some general information and links regarding California Green Building Standards Code or “Cal Green” for residents and contractors of Calaveras County.

Effective January 1, 2014, the 2013 California Green Building Standards Code (Cal Green) mandates permitted new residential and non-residential building construction, demolition and certain additions and alteration projects to recycle and/or salvage for reuse a minimum of 50% of the nonhazardous construction and demolition (C&D) debris generated during the project. New construction and demolition projects with a combined disposal weight of less than 4 lbs./ft² in new residential structures and 2 lbs./ft² in non-residential and residential high rise buildings (four stories or more) must meet the 50% minimum diversion requirement.

Additions to non-residential buildings or structures of at least 1,000 square feet or alterations with an estimated construction cost of at least $200,000 shall divert from landfills at least 50% of nonhazardous C&D materials. Additions and alterations to residential buildings that increase the structure’s conditioned area, volume or size are also required to meet the 50 percent minimum diversion requirement.

In order to ensure the requirement is met, these construction projects must have a Construction Waste Management Plan (CWMP) (click for this attachment) submitted with the building permit application. The Plan must show the construction projects planned diversion of 50% or more of nonhazardous construction waste from our landfills.

All C&D debris loads are to be brought to the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility located at 12021 Hunt Road, in Milton, (click enter when the page loads) whether the loads are self-hauled by the contractor or hauled by the permitted waste hauler.  This facility is open daily from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm. Please see the Construction & Demolition Recycling brochure for details of specific material types that are recyclable in Calaveras County or visit  the Rock Creek Page under Recycling & Disposal Facilities on our website, www.CalaverasRecycles.org.
