Beginning on December 30th, 2015, Calaveras County will be participating in a statewide program to recycle mattresses and box springs.  The program will offer free mattress and box spring recycling at the Rock Creek Solid Waste Facility.  In order to be able to divert these materials from the waste stream and our landfill, the County requires that these materials be brought to the Rock Creek facility and NOT to any of the County's Transfer Stations.  The mattresses and box springs taken to the Transfer Stations jam up the hoppers; they become soiled, crushed or twisted; and therefore unsuitable to be recycled and diverted under this program.  Further information about the program can be found on the Mattress Recycling Councils' website, www.mattressrecyclingcouncil.org.
